They actually went ahead and scored round 5 at WEC 38 so I assume under the same rule they could have told the judges to score the first round. One could also argue that Cerrone should have simply been DQ'ed.

The whole Kimbo situation bothers me because I don't dislike *HIM*. It's just the situation is so out of control my brain actually hurts. I'm not sure Kimbo would have beat "meathead" last night.

It amazes me that Kimbo got bashed for losing to Seth (1677ish rating) in his last fight, so he signs with the UFC and they give him "real" competition like Houston (1686ish rating).

What really set me off was the whole attitude of the show. This BS "If Kimbo wants into the UFC he has to go on the show". OK, does he have to win it? Uhhh nope apparently not. Does he have to at least win one fight? Umm...nope again. Does he at least have to show heart and determination and step up like fighters have on past seasons? Nope-a-rouni!!! Seriously, shy of walking off the show how much less could Kimbo have done on the show.

As for the Jones fight, the reason they didn't go to the cards was because it wasn't deep enough into the fight. Technically at that point there weren't even cards because the round hadn't ended yet. Had they gone to the cards it would have been Zero to Negative One after the point deduction. 8)

I thought about possibly a "draw", and even that sits better with me logically. Overall I feel like the right steps were taken and things were probably done right, but I'm questioning if that really is how it should be. Perhaps warnings and DQ's could use some looking into.

I agree with what you wrote about Kimbo. I think on every other season of TUF they pit castmate vs castmate on the card but for Kimbo they hand picked a striker in hopes of a good match up. Too bad they don't use yellow cards in the US, this would have been the perfect fight to break them out for.

As far as the Jones fight I think they should have stuck with the 1 point deduction and gone to the score card like they did with the Jamie Varner/Donald Cerrone fight which most likely would have ended up being a 9-9 draw. I agree its a bit extreme to DQ someone without warning and when the ref was taking his sweet time to call the fight. To me it seems as if Mazzagati was just trying to cover his ass for not calling the fight sooner.
